What’s Happening Now?

The City of Maryland Heights has resumed the planning process for approximately 2,000 acres of land in the Maryland Park Lake District after development proposals received last year did not meet the City’s vision for the area. As part of this process, the City has established a Stakeholder Advisory Committee of regulatory and planning agencies with jurisdiction over the area — plus major property owners — to work in partnership with City staff and its Economic Development and Planning Commissions in the preparation of the area’s development plan. For more information about the Stakeholder Advisory Committee and its timeline, click here.

On May 24, 2017, the economic development consultant for the Maryland Park Lake District (PGAV Planners) introduced a PowerPoint presentation to the Stakeholder Advisory Committee.  The presentation explains the need to develop the Lake District and the need for public financing tools to help develop the area.  Click here, Lake District Presentation, to view the presentation. Since the summer, a team of consultants representing firms specializing in economic development, planning, ecology and preservation, stormwater control, transportation and engineering have been studying the area. At the last two meetings, the Committee heard about the ecology, hydrology, development approaches of the area from the City’s project consultants. The next meeting is scheduled for February 28 at 3:30 p.m. in the Municipal Court Room of the Maryland Heights Government Center located at 11911 Dorsett Road.

In additional news, the proposed ice arena complex backed by the St. Louis Legacy Ice Foundation that was originally planned to be located in Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park is now slated to be constructed on land immediately adjacent to Hollywood Casino. This location is just west of Route 141 and north of the Lake District planning area. The City is a committed partner to this project. For more information, check out this press release.
